Insights: Klarna Launching Open Banking Payments in the UK, as Open Banking Momentum Builds

March 2024
Fintech & Payments

Klarna is launching Open Banking payments for its UK customers. The change means that UK Klarna customers can fund BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later) purchases directly from their bank account, rather than requiring a debit card.

The feature is immediately available within the UK. Beyond payments, the new system also allows Klarna to access transactional data via AIS (Account Information Services), which will be used by Klarna to better assess the credit worthiness of users; refining its lending model.
