Quantifying generative AI’s impact on banking roles

Zopa Bank was preparing to launch Jobs 2030; a five-year initiative developed with ClearScore that aims to reskill 100,000 banking professionals in AI-related disciplines by 2030.

To support the campaign, Zopa needed credible, independent research; examining how generative AI (genAI) would reshape the banking sector and the roles within it. As an AI-first digital bank, Zopa already recognised the growing importance of artificial intelligence in financial services. However, communicating the scale of change expected across the industry required robust data and reliable forecasts.

The organisation therefore sought a research partner capable of analysing current genAI adoption within banking, and translating those insights into a clear view of how the technology could impact banking jobs and operations over the remainder of the decade.

Building an independent view of the market

The project combined Juniper Research's expertise in fintech and emerging technologies with extensive desk-based research into the evolving use of genAI across the banking industry. Its analysts examined current deployments of genAI across internal banking functions, and assessed how the technology could influence operational workflows and workforce structures; and then modelled how genAI could affect banking roles through to 2030.

Throughout the process, it collaborated closely with the Zopa team; providing regular updates and incorporating feedback to ensure the final report aligned with the objectives of the Jobs 2030 campaign.

The result was a polished research report that delivered clear, data-driven insights into how genAI could reshape the banking workforce.

Strengthening the launch of Jobs 2030

The final report, GenAI - Transforming the UK Banking Sector, became a key asset supporting the launch of Zopa Bank’s Jobs 2030 initiative.

By presenting independent forecasts and evidence-based analysis, the research helped demonstrate the scale of change that generative AI is expected to bring to the banking sector. This enabled Zopa to highlight the urgency of workforce reskilling and position Jobs 2030 as a proactive response to industry transformation.

The report’s findings also attracted significant external attention. Insights from the research were featured in media outlets including the Financial Times and City A.M., as well as being presented at international conferences.

Overall, the project provided Zopa Bank with a credible research foundation to support its campaign; helping the organisation communicate the importance of preparing the banking workforce for the growing impact of generative AI.
