Vertical Aerospace

Founded in 2016, Vertical Aerospace is an eVTOL manufacturer based in Bristol, UK. Its main aircraft, the VX4, has been engineered with partnership with some of the world’s largest aerospace companies, including Honeywell and Leonardo. To date, the company has over $6 billion in preorders from customers worldwide.

In March 2023, Vertical became the first eVTOL developer to be granted a DOA (Design Organisation Approval) by the UK’s CAA, which authorises Vertical to conduct design activities and issue design approvals within the DOA’s scope of approval. This scope was later expanded in July 2024, and enables Vertical to sign off compliance of an increasing number of technical areas, including the VX4’s flight control, avionics, and electrical systems.

Over the years, Vertical has raised over $200 million in funding, from investors including Mudrick Capital Management, Kouros SA, American Airlines, Honeywell, and Rolls-Royce. The company has also received $47 million in funding from the UK government, including, most recently, a $10 million grant from the Aerospace Technology Institute. As a private company, Vertical Aerospace does not disclose financial information.

In December 2021, Vertical was listed on the NYSE, under the ticker EVTL, following a SPAC merger with Broadstone Acquisition Corp.

As of August 2024, the company’s executive board includes Stephen Fitzpatrick (Founder), Stuart Simpson (CEO), David King (Chief Engineer), Eduardo Dominguez Puerta (COO), and Michael Cervenka (Chief Commercial and Technology Officer).
