Telco Insights: South Korea’s MVNOs to Reduce Wholesale Data Prices by Up to 52%

Last week, South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT released its plan to enhance the competitiveness of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) in the country. This follows the government stepping back from its direct involvement in attracting a fourth Mobile Network Operator (MNO) and the abolition of the Mobile Device Distribution Act, instead opting to promote frequency allocation when an MNO wants to enter the market. These plans will prevent the deep discounting of handsets by operators to lure customers.
