Telecoms & Connectivity

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK has approved the merger between Vodafone and Three UK after 18 months of investigation. The merger will see the network operators commit £11 billion ($14 billion) to an investment programme to build the largest UK network with advanced 5G capabilities. The network will serve 50 million customers, including subscribers to Vodafone’s network partner, Virgin Media O2.

The CMA stated that the merger will boost market competition and benefit millions of people relying on mobile networks. The merger is expected to be formally completed by the first half of 2025. Vodafone will own 51% of the equity, with the option to acquire the remainder, subject to certain conditions.
