Tech Insights - Samsung Platform Announces Edge Processing & Wider Connectivity for its SmartThings

Samsung has announced that its SmartThings platform will now support edge computing, as part of a move away from the Groovy legacy platform. As part of this, the company indicated that the platform would allow support for Zigbee and Z-Wave, with more connectivity forthcoming in the future, including Matter, the standard promoted by the organisation of the same name formerly known as CHIP (Connected Home over IP).

Timescale: The blog post was dated 19th August, and implied that many of the changes to SmartThings are currently available. No dates for additional roll-outs were provided in the post.
