RCS business messaging is poised for rapid expansion over the next five years, following Apple’s adoption of RCS (Rich Communication Services) in 2024. This backing is anticipated to significantly increase RCS adoption in markets with high iOS device penetration, especially where SMS remains popular for business use, such as in the United States. By 2029, business message volume via RCS is projected to soar, as enterprises recognize the enhanced communication capabilities of the platform.

A major area of growth will be transactional RCS messaging, which will expand as companies transition from SMS to RCS, benefiting from features like brand verification at comparable costs. Operators are encouraged to facilitate this transition by aligning SMS and basic RCS pricing, enabling businesses to switch seamlessly. As companies become accustomed to basic RCS, they are likely to explore rich media capabilities, which can improve customer engagement, support, and overall brand interaction.

Promotional RCS messaging will also rise as businesses seek to leverage RCS’s rich media features for more engaging campaigns. Meanwhile, RCS for authentication purposes will see limited growth due to the availability of more secure alternatives, remaining a niche use case within the broader RCS landscape.
