According to recent reports, Facebook-owned Instagram is currently developing a standalone eCommerce application.

The new application, which has no confirmed release date as of yet, would leverage the 25 million business accounts signed up to the service; enabling brand followers a simple path towards purchasing items they were alerted to through Instagram’s feed.

Under the terms of the partnership, announced in July 2018, Worldpay will offer the 'Pay by Bank' app (created by Mastercard’s Vocalink business) to merchants in the UK, starting in early 2019.

Facebook has acquired the exclusive rights to broadcast all 380 games of Spain’s top football league, La Liga in India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, over the next 3 years.

No financial information has been given for the deal, however previous rights-holder Sony, paid $32 million for 3 seasons of games. The service will be offered as a free-to-air broadcast, although there has been no commitment from Facebook regarding the use of advertising in any future broadcasts.

Apple announced a record third financial quarter, posting $53.3 billion in revenue and 17% y-o-y (year-on-year) growth.

Although the company’s traditional revenue source, iPhones, grew 20%, services revenue grew at a faster rate (see table 1). This was accompanied by announcements that show how Apple’s services and content portfolio will grow in the future.

Following the announcement of Finn by Chase, a new all-mobile bank, in October 2017, the bank launched a nationwide rollout in June 2018. Aimed at millennials, the complete app-based product includes interactive spending and savings tools such as rate purchases, savings builders and overspending monitors to help customers actively manage their daily finances. Offering checking and savings accounts, the Finn debit card gives customers fee-free access to more than 29,000 Chase and other ATMs. The app is currently available for iOS users only, however an Android app is expected very soon from Chase.

Facebook have acquired Bloomsbury AI, a UK-based start-up which specialises in machine learning and has built an NLP (Natural Language Processing) solution to facilitate the understanding of natural language in unstructured documents. The takeover reportedly cost between $23 million and $30 million, through a mixture of cash and stock.
