AT&T's LTE Plans

POSTED BY Global Administrator
One week it's Vodafone Germany, then hot on its heels comes AT&T with another rollout announcement for LTE. The list of operators committed to LTE reads like a who's who of the mobile world, and the phrase "the best is yet to come" comes to mind. That's certainly true for anyone experiencing data connectivity issues with current technology. Just in case anyone is any doubt about what's happening with data usage, AT&T's slide from the presentation to the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2010 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference by AT&T Operations CEO John Stankey, tells the story very well:

There will be large scale investment over the two to three years which will see the network deployed - then it's a question of how many subscribers use it.  Or rather, maybe the real questions are - what will they be using it for and with?  We're expecting a wide range of connected devices by 2015, with new connected consumer devices gradually outnumbering traditional devices such as laptops and smartphones. 300 million subscribers is only the beginning.
