WhatsApp have announced that it will request users to provide their birthdate in the mobile application’s next update.

Users under the age of 16 will be banned from using the messaging app. Outside the EU, the minimum access age for the app will remain as 13 as per WhatsApp guidelines.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before the US Congressional Commitees on the Judiciary and Commerce, Science and Transportation. The hearing was intended to clarify actions to protect users’ data taken in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data leak.

The answers from this hearing gave indications of Facebook’s future intent on consumer protection and data usage, as well as providing pointers for potential avenues of regulation likely to affect the US in future. Transcripts of both days of the hearing are available.

On Thursday 1st March, the new KYC (Know Your Customer) regulations of the RBI (Reserve bank of India) came into force, requiring all wallet providers to ensure compliance of existing users.

Consumers who fail to complete KYC will only be permitted to keep up to ₹10,000 ($154) in their wallets; if these ‘minimum KYC’ wallets are not converted into ‘full KYC’ accounts within 12 months, no credit facility can be provided.

Intel have revealed a VR content development solution, titled Intel Arena Project. The project will enable developers to create large-scale detailed environments and has been set up in collaboration with Glimpse Group, an organisation comprised of AR and VR software providers.

The Intel Arena Project uses Datasmith, a workflow toolkit developed for Unreal Engine and Intel’s i9 processor released in July 2017. The project is currently only a ‘proof of concept’ for developers, however The Glimpse Group are releasing the software, along with accompanying documentation for the software, to the developers on a trial basis.

Secure messaging app Telegram has announced its intention to hold an ICO (Initial Coin Offering), with an estimated value of $1.15 billion once the cryptocurrency, TON, passes the pre-sale stage and becomes available to retail investors. Recent repots suggest it may be more. This will be the largest ICO to date.
