Huawei’s in-house semiconductor developer, HiSilicon, has announced that it will begin selling its 4G chip, the Balong 711, on the open market. This is down to increasing interest in implementing IoT devices. The chip has already sold over 100 million units since its initial launch in 2014, and has been specifically designed for IoT use cases.

According to the Financial Times, Revolut has appointed US investment bank JPMorgan to raise equity of $500 million for new investors and secure a $1 billion loan, which it would convert to shares if Revolut obtains a US banking licence. This move adds credibility to the view that Revolut is seeking to become the most valuable fintech company in Europe, and demonstrates the increasing maturity of the digital bank as a concept.

London-based start-up Rapyd announced this week that it successfully raised $100 million in a Series C funding round. This brings the total raised by the company to $160 million since June 2018; bringing the valuation of the company to nearly $1 billion.

Avenir has revealed two Energizer-branded smart featurephones that will be showcased at IFA 2019. The E241 and E241S are 3G and 4G handsets respectively, which run on the KaiOS platform.

They will come with WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook, Google Assistant, and Google Maps preinstalled, and cost €29.99 ($32.84) and €39.99 ($44.14), although some distributors have already earmarked higher prices for them.
